SpringShire Retirement, LLC, a North Carolina not-for-profit corporation, received unanimous support for annexation into the city of Greenville last Thursday evening.
SpringShire’s representatives appeared at a public hearing before the Greenville City Council to have its petition considered for voluntary annexation of its site which lies west of the Highway 264 Bypass and east of Ironwood Country Club. Annexation of the 127-acre site is an important milestone in the development of SpringShire, as it enables city water and sewer services to be extended to the site.
“We are excited to have this annexation completed,” said David Ammons, founder of SpringShire. “We have always considered SpringShire to be part of Greenville as it is so close and convenient to Vidant Medical Center and all other amenities, and now we are officially part of the city.”
SpringShire will be licensed as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or Life Plan community, that offers homes and apartments for independent residents, as well as the full continuum of care should a resident have a change in health.
The Information Center, which is located on the community site, has received a large number of visitors to learn more about the community and begin the reservation process. Detailed architectural renderings are available there to provide future residents with an understanding of the types of homes, apartments and common areas.
“The best way for someone to learn about SpringShire is to see the vision for this special community themselves,” says Morgan Lamphere, Vice President of Marketing for SpringShire. “The Information Center will provide the opportunity for future residents to learn about the different amenities, services and home types that are offered at SpringShire.”
SpringShire will consist of 150 independent living apartments, 12 independent cottages, an 8-bed assisted living unit and a 12-bed skilled nursing unit. The community will be situated on 127 acres of land located off of Highway 43 near Ironwood Country Club in Pitt County. In addition to well-appointed homes, the community will offer a variety of services and amenities such as dining venues, theater, fitness center & indoor pool, card rooms and easy access to nature trails and walkways which are adjacent to the Tar River. The community will be overseen by a voluntary Board of Directors, and manages by Retirement Living Associates, Inc., a senior living services firm headquartered in Raleigh.
“This is the right time and the right place for a community like SpringShire,” said Dr. Robert Deyton, SpringShire Board Member. “We are pleased with the success so far, and look forward to construction starting soon.”
Dr. Deyton has served on the SpringShire board for several years, and he is a retired physician and has served as a local OB-GYN for more than 40 years.
Residents interested in learning more about the SpringShire lifestyle can visit springshire.org or call (252) 317-2303. The Information Center is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.

February 17, 2016 — SpringShire Retirement, LLC, a North Carolina not-for-profit corporation, is pleased to announce the closing of Revenue Anticipation Bonds to move forward with the development of a retirement community in Greenville, NC.
These bonds will allow the community to move forward with the updated design and marketing of the community slated to begin construction in 2018. The community is being developed by Retirement Living Associates, Inc., a firm that also manages a number of other senior living communities in the Southeast including Springmoor Life Care Community in Raleigh, NC.
“When we first started marketing SpringShire, there was an extremely positive response from the Greenville community,” says David Ammons, President of RLA, Inc. “We continued to market the community through the recession, but due to a slow real estate market in Greenville, we stopped actively taking deposits for a period of time.”
Now that the real estate market has improved remarkably in the region, Mr. Ammons recommended to the SpringShire board that the time was right to move forward with pre-development financing through Herbert J. Sims, a respected senior living finance institution. Continue reading →
